Annotate PDF Online – Draw, Highlight & Add Notes

Mark up PDF pages with pen, highlights, text, sticky notes, whiteout and shapes, then download a new annotated PDF directly from your browser.

Add a PDF to start annotating

Choose one unlocked PDF up to 100 MB. Your document and markup remain in the current browser session.

You can also drag and drop a PDF into this box.

Draw, highlight and add notes without rebuilding the PDF

The editor places a transparent annotation layer over each original page. This keeps the document workflow focused: mark a passage, add instructions, sketch a correction, cover an unwanted visual area or place a visible note, then generate a separate PDF containing the markup.

Complete markup set

Use freehand drawing, broad highlighting, area highlights, text, sticky notes, whiteout, rectangles, ellipses, lines and arrows.

Accurate page placement

Annotations use proportional page coordinates, so zooming the preview does not change where the marks appear in the output.

Original document stays separate

The downloaded annotated PDF is a new file. The original PDF stored on your device is not overwritten.

How to annotate a PDF online

1

Add a PDF

Choose or drop an unlocked PDF file. The page validates the document and opens the first page in the local editor.

2

Choose a markup tool

Select Pen, Highlighter, Area Highlight, Text, Sticky Note, Whiteout, Rectangle, Ellipse, Line or Arrow.

3

Draw or place annotations

Drag on the page for marks and shapes, or click to place prepared text and sticky-note content.

4

Review and refine

Use Select to move or resize annotations, then use undo, redo, zoom and page navigation to review the document.

5

Create the annotated PDF

Select Create Annotated PDF, review the result summary and download the new file with a correctioncopy.com_ filename.

PDF annotation features for study, review and document feedback

Student and academic review

Highlight readings, add visible reminders, mark assignment corrections and draw attention to formulas, diagrams or source passages.

Workplace document feedback

Add arrows, callouts, notes and shape outlines to drafts, specifications, reports, forms, plans and approval documents.

Touch-friendly markup

Draw with a finger or compatible stylus, then select the annotation to move or resize it before export.

Page-by-page editing

Move through a multi-page PDF while each page keeps an independent list of annotations and an accurate annotation count.

Undo and redo

Reverse or restore annotation changes without reloading the PDF, including movement, resizing, deletion and page clearing.

Consistent downloaded output

Visible markup is flattened into transparent page overlays so it displays without relying on a reader-specific comment panel.

Privacy, whiteout limitations and browser processing

The page-specific workflow opens and exports the document in the current browser. It does not provide a page-specific upload or document-storage endpoint. Resetting the editor releases the current PDF, rendered pages, annotation history and generated download from the page state.

Whiteout is not secure redaction. It draws a white cover over visible content but does not remove the original underlying text, image or object data. Use a dedicated redaction workflow for confidential information.

Protected PDFs

Password-protected or encrypted PDFs are intentionally rejected because this editor does not request or store document passwords.

Large-document limits

A practical 100 MB input limit reduces crash risk, but complex image-heavy documents can exceed mobile memory at a smaller size.

Reader compatibility

Review the final PDF in the reader used by your recipient, especially when the original file contains complex forms, signatures or unusual page content.

Troubleshooting PDF markup and downloads

The PDF will not open

Confirm that it is a complete unlocked PDF, not merely a renamed file. Close memory-heavy tabs and try a smaller document when using a phone.

A tool does not place anything

For Text and Sticky Note, enter content first. For drawing and shapes, drag across the page rather than tapping once.

The result needs correction

Continue editing, select the annotation, move or resize it, then create the PDF again so the download matches the latest state.

Frequently asked questions

What is an online PDF annotator?

An online PDF annotator lets you place visible markup over PDF pages, including drawings, highlights, text, notes and shapes, then create a new PDF containing those marks.

How do I draw on a PDF?

Add a PDF, choose Pen, select a color and width, then drag on the page with a mouse, finger or compatible stylus. Use Select afterward to move or resize the drawing.

Can I highlight text in a PDF?

Yes. Use Highlighter for a broad freehand translucent stroke or Area Highlight to drag a translucent rectangular highlight over a passage. The tool does not need to recognize the underlying text.

Can I add text to a PDF?

Yes. Enter the text in the Text tool settings, choose its size and color, then click the page to place it. Select the text box to move or resize it.

Can I add sticky notes to a PDF?

Yes. Enter note text, choose a note color and click the page. The result is a visible sticky-note style box that is flattened into the downloaded PDF.

Are sticky notes saved as interactive PDF comments?

No. Sticky notes are exported as visible page markup so they display consistently. They are not interactive comment objects with pop-up panels or author metadata.

What does the whiteout tool do?

Whiteout draws an opaque white rectangle over visible page content. It is useful for visual cleanup, but it does not securely remove the covered text or image data from the original PDF content.

Can whiteout be used for secure redaction?

No. Whiteout only covers content visually. Do not use it for confidential redaction because underlying text or objects may still be recoverable, searchable or extractable.

Can I erase a drawing or note?

Yes. Choose Eraser and select an annotation, or use Select and press Delete. The eraser removes annotations created in this editing session; it does not erase original PDF content.

Can I move and resize annotations?

Yes. Choose Select, click an annotation and drag it to move. Drag the square resize handle around the selected annotation to change its size.

Can I undo and redo changes?

Yes. Undo and Redo cover added, moved, resized, duplicated, deleted and cleared annotations. Keyboard shortcuts are also available on supported desktop browsers.

Can I annotate more than one page?

Yes. Use the First, Previous, Next and Last page controls below the preview. Each page keeps its own annotation list.

Can I clear only the current page?

Yes. Clear Page removes annotations from the visible page only. Clear All removes every annotation from every page after confirmation.

Does the tool alter my original PDF?

No. The original file remains unchanged on your device. The page generates a separate annotated PDF for download.

Will the original PDF text remain selectable?

The tool adds transparent annotation overlays to the existing pages rather than converting every page to a screenshot. Original selectable text and page content are generally preserved.

Will existing links and forms remain in the PDF?

The tool modifies the existing PDF and adds page overlays, so existing content is generally retained. Complex forms, signatures, unusual annotations or damaged documents may behave differently after any PDF modification.

Can I annotate a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not supported by this workflow. Unlock the file with authorization before adding it.

Can I annotate a scanned PDF?

Yes. A scanned page is displayed like any other PDF page, and you can draw, highlight, whiteout, add text or place notes over it.

Does the tool support rotated PDF pages?

Yes. The preview follows each page rotation, and the generated annotation overlay is transformed back into the page coordinate system before it is added to the PDF.

Can I use a stylus?

Compatible stylus input is handled through standard pointer events. Pressure sensitivity is not required, and the selected line width controls the exported stroke.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The editor supports touch drawing and responsive controls. Large or image-heavy PDFs may use more memory than lower-end mobile devices can provide.

Which browsers are supported?

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari versions are expected to support the required document, canvas, pointer and download features. Older browsers or restrictive content blockers may prevent the editor from loading.

Why is my PDF not opening?

The document may be encrypted, incomplete, damaged, incorrectly named or too large for available browser memory. Try a valid unlocked PDF and close other memory-intensive tabs.

Is there a file-size limit?

The page applies a practical 100 MB input limit to reduce browser crashes. The workable size can be lower on mobile devices and depends on page count, image resolution and document complexity.

Why does a page preview look different from another PDF reader?

PDF rendering can vary for unusual fonts, transparency, optional content or damaged files. Review the downloaded result in your normal PDF reader before relying on it.

Can I zoom while annotating?

Yes. Use zoom in, zoom out or Fit Width. Annotation positions are stored proportionally, so changing preview zoom does not change their document placement.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. V selects, P chooses Pen, H chooses Highlighter, T chooses Text, N chooses Sticky Note, W chooses Whiteout, R chooses Rectangle, O chooses Ellipse, L chooses Line and A chooses Arrow. Delete removes the selected annotation.

Can I download an annotation report?

The primary output is the annotated PDF. The page also shows page and annotation totals before download so you can confirm that markup exists.

What filename is used for the output?

The downloaded filename begins with correctioncopy.com_, followed by a safe version of the original filename and -annotated.pdf.

Are my PDF and annotations uploaded?

No page-specific endpoint receives the PDF or annotation content. The document is opened, marked up and exported in the current browser session.

Does the page permanently store my annotations?

No page-specific permanent storage is used. The PDF bytes, annotations, edit history and generated result remain in browser memory until reset, replacement, navigation or page closure.

Do I need an account or installation?

No page-specific account, extension or software installation is required. A compatible browser with JavaScript enabled is sufficient.

How do I start over?

Choose Reset Editor to remove the current PDF, annotations, edit history, preview tasks and generated result, then select another file.
