Common uses for PDF headers and footers

Add consistent information across reports, contracts, academic documents and operational files while keeping cover pages or selected sections unchanged.

Reports and proposals

Add a project title, company name, filename, revision date and automatic page numbering to every selected page.

Contracts and legal files

Insert a matter name, confidentiality label, date or page count while leaving a title or signature page untouched.

Academic documents

Create running headers with an author, short title, course reference or page number for papers and supporting material.

Branded documents

Place a logo, business name and separator line in the header while using a quieter footer for dates and page details.

Privacy, compatibility and practical limits

Local processing

The selected PDF, logo and generated document are processed in your browser. CorrectionCopy does not receive the file contents, filenames or entered header and footer text.

  • No account or database entry is required.
  • Reset releases the loaded document, preview and temporary object URLs.
  • Analytics events contain only broad tool-action names, never document content.

Browser and document limits

There is no artificial file-size or page-count restriction. Practical capacity depends on available memory, the PDF structure and the browser.

  • Password-protected, malformed or unsupported PDFs may not open.
  • Very large scanned PDFs can take longer and may exceed device memory.
  • Uncommon characters are rasterized as a high-resolution text image when a built-in PDF font cannot encode them.

Troubleshooting

These are the most common reasons a PDF cannot be previewed or generated.

My PDF does not open.

Confirm the file is a genuine PDF rather than another format renamed with a .pdf extension. Password-protected, corrupted or partially downloaded documents must be unlocked, repaired or downloaded again before processing.

The page range is rejected.

Enter individual pages or ranges such as 2-6, 9, 12. Every page number must exist in the loaded PDF, and ranges should be separated with commas.

The header or footer is missing from the preview.

Check that the relevant Header or Footer switch is enabled, that at least one text field, logo or separator line is configured, and that the previewed page is included in the selected range.

The uploaded logo does not appear.

Use a valid PNG or JPEG, enable both the Header and Header logo switches, then confirm the logo width and alignment. A damaged or incorrectly renamed image will be rejected.

Long header text becomes smaller than expected.

The tool reduces oversized text to fit its left, center or right zone without colliding with other content. Shorten the text, use a smaller logo, or distribute information across multiple zones.

The browser becomes slow on a large PDF.

Close memory-heavy tabs, keep the tool page active, or use a desktop browser with more available memory. Scanned PDFs and documents with many large images require more resources.

The download does not start.

Allow downloads for CorrectionCopy, confirm the browser has available storage, and try again. On mobile devices, also check the browser download manager or Files app.

A content blocker prevents the tool from loading.

The PDF preview and editing components load only after a file is selected. Allow the pinned dependency host for this page or retry in a browser without restrictive script blocking.

Add header and footer to PDF FAQ

Can I add only a header or only a footer?

Yes. The header and footer are enabled independently, and each has separate font, style, color, margin and separator-line settings.

Can I place page numbers in the header instead of the footer?

Yes. Insert the {page} or {pages} placeholder into any left, center or right header field. Page numbering can start from a custom number.

Can the header and footer use different fonts and colors?

Yes. Configure the two sections independently with Helvetica, Times or Courier, plus normal, bold, italic or bold-italic styling.

Can I add a logo beside header text?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPEG, select left, center or right alignment, and adjust the logo width and text gap. Text in the same zone is fitted beside the image.

Can I skip a cover page or edit only selected pages?

Yes. Choose “All except first page” or enter a custom range such as 2-8, 10, 14-18.

Can I automatically add the filename or current date?

Yes. Insert {filename} or {date}. The date can use a long written format, ISO format, day/month/year or month/day/year.

Does the tool upload or store my PDF?

No. The PDF, logo, entered text and generated output are processed locally in the browser and are not sent to CorrectionCopy.

Does the tool replace my original PDF?

No. It downloads a separate PDF whose filename begins with correctioncopy.com_, leaving the source file unchanged.

Will the inserted text remain selectable?

Characters supported by the selected built-in PDF font remain selectable. Unsupported characters use a high-resolution image fallback so they can still appear in the output.

Does it work on mobile devices and rotated PDF pages?

Yes. The interface adapts to modern mobile browsers, and the output engine compensates for standard stored page rotations of 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Very large PDFs still depend on available device memory.
