How this Hijri date converter works

Embedded Umm al-Qura month sequence

The converter stores the complete 29-day and 30-day month sequence for 1300–1600 AH. Gregorian and Hijri dates are mapped through a cumulative day index, so both directions use the same deterministic calendar data.

Islamic civil calculation

The optional civil calendar uses a fixed arithmetic cycle. It is predictable across long historical and future ranges but can differ from published Umm al-Qura or locally observed dates.

Why Hijri calendar dates can differ

Published calendar versus observation

A published calendar creates a stable civil date sequence. Religious authorities may separately announce Ramadan, Eid or other observances after reviewing crescent-sighting evidence.

Regional adjustment

Different countries and communities may begin a Hijri month on different Gregorian dates. The ±2-day control is transparent and appears in the report rather than silently changing the result.

Neutral date boundary

Each entered day is processed at a neutral UTC boundary. Device time zone changes therefore do not move the date backward or forward.

Localized presentation

Month names, weekdays and numerals can be displayed for Arabic, Indonesian, Urdu, Malay, Turkish, French, Persian or English readers while the underlying numeric date remains visible.

Accuracy, privacy and limitations

Calendar accuracy

Umm al-Qura results are exact for the embedded month table. Civil results are exact for the arithmetic method. Neither mode predicts a future local moon-sighting announcement.

Private browser conversion

The page-specific engine does not upload entered dates or create server-side files. TXT and CSV exports are generated in the browser. Shared site analytics may load, but form values are not intentionally sent to them.

Legal and religious dates

For contracts, court deadlines, government filings, Ramadan, Hajj or Eid, verify the final date with the official calendar and competent authority that governs the event.

Troubleshooting

Check that the source date is complete, the Hijri day exists in the chosen month, and the year fits the selected calendar. Switch to Islamic civil for dates outside 1300–1600 AH.

Frequently asked questions

What does this Hijri date converter do?

It converts Gregorian dates to Hijri dates and Hijri dates to Gregorian dates using either the Umm al-Qura calendar or the arithmetic Islamic civil calendar.

What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?

Umm al-Qura is the official calendar used in Saudi Arabia. It is a lunar Hijri calendar whose published month sequence is used for civil and administrative dates.

What range does the Umm al-Qura converter support?

The embedded Umm al-Qura table covers Hijri years 1300 through 1600 AH. Dates outside that range should be converted with the Islamic civil option.

Can I convert Hijri to Gregorian as well as Gregorian to Hijri?

Yes. Choose either direction and the engine validates the entered date before producing the reverse-calendar result.

What is the Islamic civil calendar option?

It is a fixed arithmetic Hijri calendar with 29-day and 30-day months arranged by a repeating 30-year leap-year cycle. It is useful when a predictable tabular result is required.

Why can Hijri dates differ by one day?

Hijri dates may differ because of local crescent-sighting decisions, regional calendars, observation methods, time zones and the selected calculation system.

What does the local day adjustment do?

It shifts the Hijri interpretation by up to two days without changing the underlying calendar table, helping you compare a published local date with the default result.

Does the adjustment work in both directions?

Yes. Gregorian-to-Hijri adds the selected adjustment before reading the Hijri date, while Hijri-to-Gregorian applies the inverse shift so round-trip conversion remains consistent.

Is Umm al-Qura the same as local moon sighting?

Not always. Umm al-Qura is a published calendar, while religious authorities may confirm some observances through local or official crescent-sighting procedures.

Can I use this converter for Ramadan dates?

Yes for planning and date comparison, but the start and end of Ramadan may be officially announced according to local religious authority and moon sighting.

Can I use this converter for Eid dates?

It can provide calendar dates, but final Eid observance dates should be confirmed through the competent authority in your country or community.

Does the tool know my country automatically?

No. It does not infer a religious calendar from location. Select the calendar method and any local day adjustment that matches the source you are comparing.

Which languages are supported for date display?

The interface can format results in English, Arabic, Indonesian, Urdu, Malay, Turkish, French and Persian when supported by the browser.

Can I display Arabic-Indic numerals?

Yes. Choose local numerals to use the selected language’s customary digits, or choose Western numerals for 0–9.

Why does the month name look different in another language?

Month names and transliterations vary by language and region. The numeric Hijri date is shown alongside the localized long date to reduce ambiguity.

How is an invalid Hijri date handled?

The calculator checks the actual month length for the selected calendar. A day that does not exist in that month is rejected with a clear correction message.

Can a Hijri month have 28 or 31 days?

No. In the supported Hijri calendars, months contain 29 or 30 days. The exact Umm al-Qura sequence is taken from the embedded calendar table.

How long is a Hijri year?

A Hijri year contains 354 or 355 days. The result panel shows the exact length for the selected year and calendar.

What is the Hijri day of year?

It is the sequential day number within the Hijri year, starting with 1 Muharram as day 1.

Does the tool account for time zones?

The converter treats entries as calendar dates at a neutral UTC day boundary so the result does not change merely because the device is in another time zone.

Why might another converter show a different result?

The other converter may use observational, civil, tabular, Saudi sighting or Umm al-Qura data, or it may apply a regional one-day adjustment.

Can I convert dates before 1300 AH?

Yes with the Islamic civil option. The Umm al-Qura table is deliberately limited to its documented 1300–1600 AH range.

Can I convert dates after 1600 AH?

Yes with the Islamic civil option. Future official Umm al-Qura month data beyond the embedded range is not guessed.

Does the converter use an internet connection for each date?

No. The conversion runs in the browser from embedded calendar data and arithmetic formulas after the page has loaded.

Are entered dates uploaded or stored?

No page-specific request sends the entered dates to a server. Reset clears the current result, and the tool does not create a date-history database.

Can I download the result?

Yes. You can download a text conversion report and a CSV table of nearby dates. Filenames begin with correctioncopy.com_.

Can I print the converted date?

Yes. Use Print / PDF to print the result or save it as a PDF through the browser’s print dialog.

What does Use Result as Input do?

It switches the conversion direction and places the converted date into the appropriate input fields while preserving the calendar and adjustment settings.

Is this suitable for legal or contractual deadlines?

Use it as a calculation aid only. Confirm legally significant dates against the governing document, official calendar and responsible authority.

Is the result a religious ruling?

No. The tool performs calendar conversion and does not decide religious observance, testimony, moon sighting or jurisprudential questions.

Which browsers are supported?

The core embedded Umm al-Qura and civil calculations work in current major browsers with JavaScript enabled. Localized month names depend on the browser’s available language data.

What should I do when the result cannot be calculated?

Check that all date fields are complete, the Gregorian date is valid, the Hijri day exists in the selected month and the year is inside the selected calendar’s supported range.
