What the clean copy contains
The new file contains re-encoded visible pixels and minimal structural information required by its image format. Original metadata is not copied. When you enable replacement metadata for JPEG, only the fields you entered are added to the new file.
Colour and quality limitations
Re-encoding may alter file size, compression, resolution metadata and colour management. Some wide-gamut or specialised colour profiles may be converted by the browser. Compare important professional images before replacing an archival workflow.
Keep the original when needed
Metadata can be useful for evidence, copyright, cataloguing, editing, accessibility or asset management. Download and publish the clean copy, but retain the original securely when its metadata has legitimate value.
Troubleshooting EXIF viewing and metadata removal
No metadata appears
The file may already be clean, the platform that supplied it may have stripped tags, or the information may be proprietary or unsupported.
The preview cannot decode
Some browsers cannot display HEIC, TIFF or particular AVIF/WebP variants. Metadata inspection may still work, but re-encoding requires pixel decoding.
The photo rotates incorrectly
Re-select the original and compare both previews. Browser auto-rotation differs in older environments; update the browser before processing orientation-sensitive photos.
The output is too large
Choose JPEG or WebP, lower quality slightly or set a smaller maximum dimension. PNG can be substantially larger for photographic images.
The output looks different
Lossy compression, transparency conversion, colour profiles and browser encoders can affect appearance. Use PNG or a higher quality and compare at full size.
A very large image fails
Keep original dimensions only when the device has enough memory. Otherwise reduce the maximum dimensions, close memory-heavy tabs and try again.

The metadata viewer accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, HEIF and TIFF signatures. Available tag coverage depends on the metadata stored in the file. Some browser environments may inspect HEIC or TIFF metadata but may not decode those formats for a cleaned image download.
Which formats can I download after removing metadata?
The cleaned output can be JPEG, PNG or WebP when the browser supports that encoder. JPEG uses a solid background and does not support transparency. PNG preserves transparency. WebP support and quality handling depend on the browser.
Will the cleaned photo keep the correct orientation?
The tool reads the orientation information and accounts for browser auto-rotation before creating the clean copy. The visual orientation is baked into the output pixels so it does not need the original orientation tag. Scan the preview before downloading when orientation is critical.
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
Re-encoding JPEG or WebP can introduce some quality loss because those formats use lossy compression. PNG is lossless but may create a larger file. Use the highest practical quality or PNG when exact pixel preservation matters more than file size.
Does the tool change the original photo?
