What the speed test measures

The four main values describe speed, response time and consistency on the path between this browser and the test server.

Download speed

Shows how quickly data reaches your device. Higher download speed helps with websites, streaming, downloads and cloud content.

Upload speed

Shows how quickly data leaves your device. Upload performance matters for calls, file sharing, backups and live broadcasts.

Ping

Measures round-trip delay in milliseconds. Lower delay usually makes interactive activity feel more responsive.

Jitter

Prepare your connection

Pause large downloads, streaming and cloud backups. Stay near your Wi-Fi router or use Ethernet when possible.

Start the speed test

Select Start Speed Test. The test checks ping first, then download speed and upload speed automatically.

Read the results

Review download and upload speeds in Mbps, plus ping and jitter in milliseconds. Higher speeds and lower delay are generally better.

Repeat when needed

Run the test again at different times or locations to compare Wi-Fi, mobile data and wired connections.

Privacy, data use and limitations

A real bandwidth test must transfer temporary data across the network; it cannot be measured from local browser calculations alone.

Generated test data

The browser downloads generated binary data and uploads generated random bytes. It does not send personal files, messages, photos or document content.

No permanent test file

The page-specific upload endpoint counts incoming bytes and discards them. It does not create a permanent uploaded file or database record.

Single-server result

The result measures the current route to CorrectionCopy. Distance, hosting capacity and routing can differ from another speed-test server.

Normal web metadata

As with ordinary website traffic, the hosting platform may receive request metadata such as IP address, time and browser headers for delivery and security.

Retry with request-filtering extensions paused. A privacy or security extension can block the temporary test-data requests.

Mobile test stopped

Keep the screen awake and the page visible. Battery-saving modes and background-tab suspension can interrupt a running test.

Wi-Fi result is low

Move closer to the router, try another Wi-Fi band or compare with Ethernet. Walls and interference can reduce wireless performance.

Results change often

Run several tests at similar times and compare the middle result. Short-lived congestion can make one test unusually high or low.

What is download speed?

Download speed is how quickly data reaches your device. It affects web browsing, streaming, app downloads, cloud files and software updates.

What is upload speed?

Upload speed is how quickly data leaves your device. It matters for video calls, sending large files, cloud backups and live streaming.

What is ping?

Ping is the round-trip delay between your browser and the test server, measured in milliseconds. Lower ping usually feels more responsive.

What is jitter?

Jitter shows how much the measured delay changes from one ping to the next. Lower jitter means the connection delay is more consistent.

What does Mbps mean?

Mbps means megabits per second. Internet providers normally advertise connection speed in megabits rather than megabytes.

Is Mbps the same as MB/s?

No. Mbps measures megabits per second, while MB/s measures megabytes per second. Eight bits make one byte, before protocol overhead is considered.

Why is my result lower than my internet plan?

Wi-Fi signal quality, distance, network congestion, other devices, browser conditions, server distance and provider routing can all reduce a single measured result.

Why do different speed-test websites show different results?

Different tools use different servers, routes, test lengths, connection counts and calculation methods. Each result reflects the path and conditions used by that test.

Does the test measure my Wi-Fi speed or internet speed?

It measures the complete path from this device through Wi-Fi, Ethernet or mobile data to the test server. A weak local wireless link can therefore lower the result.

Should I use Wi-Fi or Ethernet for testing?

Use Ethernet when you want to measure the wired connection more directly. Use Wi-Fi when you want to understand the real experience at your current location.

Can I test mobile data?

Yes. The tool works on supported mobile browsers, but a standard test can use a noticeable amount of mobile data. Enable Reduce data use when needed.

What does Reduce data use do?

It shortens the download and upload measurements and uses fewer parallel transfers. This saves data but can make very fast or unstable connections harder to measure consistently.

How much data does the speed test use?

Usage changes with connection speed and test mode. The tool stops after enough temporary data or test time has been reached and shows the approximate transferred amount afterward.

Does this test have a fixed speed limit?

The interface does not cap the displayed speed. Practical measurement can still be limited by the browser, device, network path, hosting server and temporary test-data budget.

Can I stop a running test?

Yes. Select Stop Test to cancel active download and upload transfers. A stopped test does not present partial values as a completed result.

Why did the test fail or stop?

The connection may have changed, the browser may have blocked a request, the server may have been temporarily busy or the tab may have been suspended. Keep the tab active and try again.

Will a VPN affect the result?

Yes. A VPN adds another route and server to the connection, so it can change download speed, upload speed and delay. Test with and without the VPN when comparing.

Can browser extensions affect the result?

Yes. Privacy, security, filtering and traffic-inspection extensions can delay or block test requests. Temporarily disable the responsible extension if the test endpoint cannot be reached.

Why should I repeat the test?

Internet performance changes with time, location, congestion and wireless conditions. Repeating the test provides a more useful picture than one isolated result.

Is this result guaranteed by my internet provider?

No. It is a browser measurement to the CorrectionCopy server, not a certified line test or a guarantee of provider performance.

Does the tool identify my ISP or IP address?

The page does not use a third-party ISP or IP lookup service. Like any website request, the hosting server can receive normal request metadata such as the connecting IP address.

Is my test data stored?

The speed-test payload contains generated temporary bytes rather than personal files or messages. The page-specific endpoint reads upload bytes, discards them and does not create a permanent test file.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. The test runs in a current browser without an account, extension or device permission.

Which browsers are supported?

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari versions can run the test. Browser networking, background-tab behavior and device power-saving settings can affect results.

Can I copy or download the result?

Yes. After a completed test, use Copy Results or Download Results. The downloaded text filename begins with correctioncopy.com_.

How can I get a more accurate result?
