How this Zakat calculator works

Net-wealth calculation

The engine totals the included personal assets, precious metals and business trading assets, subtracts the short-term deductions you enter, compares the result with the selected Nisab, then applies the chosen rate when the Hawl confirmation is met.

Transparent assumptions

Every significant choice appears in the report: currency, gold or silver benchmark, metal-weight standard, market prices, jewellery inclusion, annual rate and deductions. This makes differing results easier to understand.

Zakat formula and Nisab options

StageCalculation
Gold valueWeight × purity factor × pure-gold price per gram
Silver valueWeight × purity percentage × pure-silver price per gram
Net zakatable wealthTotal included assets − allowable entered deductions
Lunar-year ZakatNet zakatable wealth × 2.5%, when Nisab and Hawl conditions are met
Solar-year approximationNet zakatable wealth × 2.5775%

The engine never assumes a live metal price. Enter a current price from a source suitable for your location and currency.

What can be included in zakatable wealth?

Personal wealth

Common entries include cash, current and savings accounts, mobile wallets, converted foreign currency, investment or trading balances, digital assets, precious metals and other amounts included under your method.

Business wealth

Business calculations commonly focus on cash, stock held for resale, collectible receivables and current assets intended for trade. Fixed equipment and premises used to operate the business are not automatically included.

Gold jewellery

Scholarly opinions differ on jewellery kept for normal personal use. The calculator separates personal jewellery and lets you include or exclude it without hiding the assumption.

Liabilities

Debt deductions vary. The form is deliberately limited to amounts due before the next assessment date and does not automatically deduct an entire long-term loan.

Accuracy, privacy and limitations

Religious-method differences

This tool does not choose a school of law or issue a ruling. Nisab weights, jewellery, pension assets, debt deductions, investment treatment, jointly owned wealth and ownership timing can produce legitimate differences.

Private browser calculation

The page-specific calculator does not upload the values you enter or create server-side files. TXT and CSV reports are generated in your browser. Shared site analytics may still load but the calculator does not send form values to them.

Not covered

Agricultural produce, livestock, minerals, Zakat al-Fitr, charity distribution eligibility and country-specific collection rules require separate calculations and are not estimated here.

Troubleshooting

When the result is unavailable, confirm that the selected Nisab has a positive metal price or custom amount, every field contains a non-negative number, and all values use the same currency.

Frequently asked questions

What does this Zakat calculator calculate?

It estimates Zakat on net zakatable wealth such as cash, savings, gold, silver, investments, digital assets and business assets after selected short-term deductions.

What Zakat rate does the calculator use?

The default lunar-year rate is 2.5%. A solar-year option uses 2.5775%, and a custom percentage is available for a method confirmed with a qualified scholar.

What is Nisab?

Nisab is the minimum zakatable wealth threshold. This calculator can value Nisab using gold, silver or a custom monetary amount.

Which gold and silver weights are available?

You can use 85 grams of gold and 595 grams of silver, or the alternative 87.48 grams of gold and 612.36 grams of silver. Both are established contemporary measurements used by Zakat organisations and scholars.

Should I use the gold or silver Nisab?

Scholars and organisations differ over which benchmark is more appropriate in particular circumstances. Select the standard you follow or ask a qualified scholar.

Does the calculator fetch live gold or silver prices?

No. Enter a current pure-gold or pure-silver price per gram in your selected currency. This avoids silently using an outdated or location-inappropriate market price.

How is gold value calculated?

Gold value equals weight multiplied by purity and the entered pure-gold price per gram. For example, 22-karat gold uses 22 divided by 24 as its purity factor.

How is silver value calculated?

Silver value equals weight multiplied by the entered purity percentage and the current pure-silver price per gram.

Is Zakat due on personal gold jewellery?

There is a recognised difference of scholarly opinion. The calculator provides a separate personal-jewellery field and an include switch so you can follow the guidance you trust.

What cash should I include?

Commonly included amounts are cash on hand, current and savings accounts, mobile wallets and money held in other currencies converted into the selected reporting currency.

Is Zakat calculated on income or savings?

This tool calculates the zakatable wealth present on the assessment date, not gross annual income by itself. Unspent income that remains as zakatable wealth can be included.

How should foreign currency be entered?

Convert the amount into the selected reporting currency using a reasonable current exchange rate, then enter the converted value in the foreign-currency field.

Are shares and investment funds zakatable?

Treatment can depend on whether they are held for trading, long-term ownership or through a fund with known zakatable assets. Enter the zakatable value determined under your chosen method.

Can I include cryptocurrency and digital assets?

Yes. Enter the current zakatable value of digital assets you include under your chosen scholarly guidance.

How are retirement and pension accounts handled?

Rules differ according to ownership, accessibility, jurisdiction and scholarly method. Enter only the amount or zakatable portion you have determined should be included.

What business assets can be entered?

The business section includes cash, inventory held for resale, collectible trade receivables, investments or trading balances, and other current assets intended for trade.

Is business equipment included?

Fixed assets used to operate a business, rather than held for sale, are generally treated differently from trading stock. This calculator does not add equipment automatically.

How should doubtful debts owed to my business be treated?

Enter only the portion of trade receivables that you reasonably include as collectible under the method you follow. Treatment of doubtful or delayed debts can differ.

Which debts can I deduct?

The calculator labels deductions as amounts due before the next Zakat anniversary. Whether a particular personal or business liability is deductible depends on the scholarly method followed.

Can I deduct an entire long-term mortgage or loan?

The tool does not automatically deduct a full long-term balance. It provides a field for the amount due within the selected short-term period because broader deductions are disputed.

What is Hawl?

Hawl is the passage of a qualifying lunar year while the relevant wealth conditions are met. The calculator includes a confirmation switch but cannot determine your religious liability from transaction history.

What happens when my wealth is below Nisab?

The result shows that the selected Nisab has not been reached and sets estimated Zakat due to zero, while still displaying the wealth breakdown.

What happens when I have not completed Hawl?

The calculator shows the mathematical amount if due but reports zero as currently assessed due because the Hawl confirmation is not selected. Ask a scholar about your exact ownership timeline.

Why is the solar-year rate higher than 2.5%?

A solar year is longer than a lunar year. The 2.5775% option is a common annualised approximation for people who assess on a Gregorian-year cycle.

Does the calculator cover agricultural produce, livestock or minerals?

No. Those categories can use separate thresholds, rates and rules, so this page focuses on monetary wealth, precious metals, investments and trading assets.

Does this calculate Zakat al-Fitr?

No. Zakat al-Fitr is a separate obligation with location-specific food or monetary values and is not included in this wealth calculator.

Can couples calculate jointly?

The calculator totals whatever is entered, but Zakat liability is normally assessed by ownership. Couples should separate personally owned assets when their chosen guidance requires it.

Can I use any currency?

The page includes many widely used currencies. All entered amounts and metal prices must use the same selected currency. No exchange conversion is performed automatically.

Can I download the calculation?

Yes. You can download a text report and a CSV asset breakdown. Download filenames begin with correctioncopy.com_.

Are my financial values uploaded or stored?

No page-specific request sends the entered financial values to a server. The calculation and report generation run in the browser and reset clears the workspace.

Is this calculator a religious ruling or financial advice?

No. It is a transparent mathematical aid. Zakat treatment differs by school, ownership, debt, jewellery, investment structure and local circumstances, so consult a qualified scholar when uncertain.

Why might another Zakat calculator show a different answer?

Differences can result from the selected Nisab benchmark, metal weights, market prices, lunar versus solar rate, jewellery treatment, debts, investments or business-asset methodology.
