Free Online Speaker Test for Any Current Audio Output

This online speaker test generates tones directly with the browser's Web Audio engine. It can check the active output used by a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer, including built-in speakers, wired headphones, USB headsets, Bluetooth speakers, wireless earbuds, monitor speakers and external stereo systems. No audio file is uploaded and no microphone permission is needed.

The browser sends sound to whichever output the operating system currently uses. When a Bluetooth headset, HDMI monitor or external audio interface is connected, confirm the active output in system settings before treating a silent test as a speaker fault.

Left and Right Stereo Channel Test

A left right audio test is useful when one headphone side is silent, stereo appears reversed, a cable is partially connected or balance settings have shifted. Tap Left Speaker and the test pans a reference tone to the left channel. Tap Right Speaker for the opposite side, then Both / Center to check whether equal playback creates a centered image. The L-to-R sequence makes direction changes easier to recognize.

Phone hardware varies. Some phones are mono, some use two speakers, and some combine a lower loudspeaker with the earpiece. On very small devices the two physical sources may be too close to create a strong stereo image. That is a hardware-layout limitation, not necessarily a browser problem.

Frequency Sweep, Bass Test and Treble Test

The frequency sweep moves continuously from a selected start frequency to an end frequency. A logarithmic sweep spends a more perceptually balanced amount of time across musical octaves, while a linear sweep changes by an equal number of hertz per second. Use a short sweep first and listen at low volume.

Low-frequency output can reveal cabinet vibration, loose parts, buzzing, weak bass or subwoofer crossover problems. High-frequency output can reveal a silent tweeter or strong imbalance, but a missing very-high tone may reflect the speaker design, audio codec, operating-system processing, age-related hearing variation or the listener's environment. This page is not a hearing test.

Why a Browser Speaker Test Cannot Measure Exact Audio Quality

A browser can generate a precise digital test signal, but it cannot know the sound-pressure level at your ears or in the room. It also cannot measure the acoustic output without using a calibrated microphone and controlled test setup. Device equalization, automatic gain processing, Bluetooth codecs, speaker protection, room reflections and operating-system routing can alter what is heard.

Use this tool to identify obvious channel, routing, audibility, rattle and dropout problems. For certified frequency-response, distortion, phase or sound-level measurements, use calibrated acoustic equipment and appropriate test software.

Safe Listening During a Sound Test

Generated tones can feel more intense than music because they concentrate energy at one frequency. Keep the system volume low, avoid long repeated tests and take breaks. Never use a high-volume sweep to force a speaker or to test the limits of your hearing. Stop if you notice pain, discomfort, dizziness or ringing.

Troubleshooting No Sound

  • Confirm the device is not muted and system volume is low but audible.
  • Check whether sound is routed to Bluetooth earbuds, an HDMI screen, a dock or another output.
  • Tap the test button again so the browser can resume a user-activated AudioContext.
  • Close another application that may have exclusive control of an audio device.
  • Try the Both / Center tone before assuming one stereo channel is broken.
