Compress Image — frequently asked questions

Add your JPG, PNG or WebP files above, choose a compression level (Recommended works for most images), and click Compress Images. The tool re-encodes each photo and gives you a smaller file to download, all inside your browser.

Compression trades a little quality for a much smaller file. Light is near-lossless and keeps photos looking sharp, Recommended still looks great, and Strong is best when small size matters most. You can preview the result before downloading to check it.

PNG is a lossless format, so simply re-saving it barely shrinks. For real savings, set the output format to JPG or WebP. WebP keeps transparency and is the smallest; JPG is smallest of all but fills transparent areas with white.

Pick the Strong level, or open Custom and drag the slider toward "Smallest size". The live estimate shows roughly how small the file will become, and you can compress again at a higher strength if you need to go lower.

Yes, if you keep the original format or choose WebP. Converting to JPG removes transparency and fills those areas with white, since JPG does not support transparent backgrounds.

No upload limits. Because images are compressed on your own device instead of being sent to a server, you can add as many as you like for free. The only practical ceiling is your device's available memory.
