Region-aware Simplified and Traditional Chinese conversion

This converter handles common Chinese character forms and phrase-level regional vocabulary for Taiwan, Hong Kong and general Simplified Chinese publishing. It is designed for articles, subtitles, product text, interfaces, documents and multilingual content workflows.

Taiwan Traditional Chinese

Choose Taiwan character forms alone or include supported Taiwan vocabulary such as regional technology and everyday terms.

Hong Kong Traditional Chinese

Use Hong Kong character forms, with an optional regional phrase profile for supported Hong Kong expressions.

General Simplified Chinese

Convert generic, Taiwan or Hong Kong Traditional text into Simplified Chinese for Mainland-style and general Simplified publishing.

Custom project vocabulary

Apply your organization, product, legal or editorial terminology after the selected regional conversion.

How to use the Chinese converter

The workflow matches the controls inside the converter.

  1. Choose a conversion profileSelect Taiwan, Hong Kong, standard Traditional Chinese or general Simplified Chinese, with regional phrase conversion when needed.
  2. Paste or import the textEnter Chinese text directly or load a supported UTF-8 text file from your device.
  3. Review optional settingsEnable quotation-mark normalization or add custom source-to-target terms when the document requires project-specific vocabulary.
  4. Convert and compareChoose Convert Chinese, then inspect the output, script estimate, timing and changed-line comparison.
  5. Copy or download the resultCopy the converted text, move it back to the input for another direction, or download a UTF-8 TXT file.

Choose the right Chinese conversion profile

Character-only profiles make narrower script changes. Regional phrase profiles also adapt supported vocabulary and therefore require more editorial review.

Accuracy, names and regional terminology

Conversion is context-aware, not human translation

Phrase dictionaries improve many common expressions, but names, brands, legal terms, medical language, Cantonese wording and newly coined terms can remain ambiguous.

Use custom mappings carefully

Custom terms are literal replacements. Review them for words that can appear inside longer names or phrases, and prefer longer source expressions where context matters.

Structured text needs validation

CSV, JSON, subtitles and Markdown are treated as text. Syntax characters are preserved, but converted keys, values or identifiers may affect downstream systems.

Professional review for important use

Have official, legal, medical, academic or high-visibility commercial output reviewed by a qualified native-language editor in the target region.

Browser-session text processing and compatibility

No page-specific text upload

The entered text and imported file content are processed in browser memory. They are not submitted to a page-specific conversion endpoint.

Fixed conversion data request

A pinned browser conversion bundle is downloaded when the first conversion starts. The text itself is not included in that network request.

Current browser support

The interface is designed for current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile. Clipboard access can be restricted by browser permissions or insecure contexts.

Practical workload limits

Input is limited to 500,000 characters and imported files to 5 MB to reduce browser freezes and memory pressure on lower-end devices.

Chinese conversion frequently asked questions

Answers about Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, regional phrases, text files, privacy, output and troubleshooting.

What does this Chinese converter do?

It converts between Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, including Taiwan and Hong Kong character standards and optional regional phrase conversion.

Which conversion should I use for Taiwan?

Use Simplified to Taiwan Traditional with regional terms for public-facing Taiwan content. Use the character-only Taiwan option when you want script conversion without broader terminology changes.

Which conversion should I use for Hong Kong?

Use Simplified to Hong Kong Traditional for Hong Kong character forms. The regional-terms option also applies a smaller Hong Kong phrase dictionary and should be reviewed carefully.

Which option is suitable for Singapore?

General Simplified Chinese output is suitable for Simplified Chinese orthography commonly used in Singapore, but the converter does not include a dedicated Singapore terminology dictionary. Review local institutional and commercial terms manually.

What is the difference between character conversion and phrase conversion?

Character conversion changes script forms, while phrase conversion can also replace regional vocabulary such as software, mouse, taxi or data-related terms. Phrase conversion is more natural for a target region but can change wording more broadly.

Is this a translation tool?

No. It converts Chinese character forms and selected regional vocabulary. It does not translate between Chinese and English, or between Mandarin and Cantonese.

Does the converter preserve paragraphs and punctuation?

It preserves line breaks, spacing and ordinary punctuation. Optional quotation-mark normalization can change common quote characters for the selected output style.

Can it convert Taiwanese vocabulary to Mainland vocabulary?

Yes. Choose Taiwan Traditional with regional terms to general Simplified Chinese. This applies both script conversion and supported regional phrase replacements.

Can it convert Hong Kong vocabulary to Simplified Chinese?

Yes. Choose Hong Kong Traditional with regional terms to general Simplified Chinese. The Hong Kong phrase dictionary is smaller than the Taiwan phrase set, so manual review remains important.

What is standard Traditional Chinese?

Standard Traditional Chinese is an intermediate character form used by the conversion data. For end-user publishing, Taiwan or Hong Kong output is usually more appropriate.

Can I add my own terminology?

Yes. Add one source-to-target mapping per line using the format source => replacement. Custom mappings are applied after the selected regional conversion.

How are custom terms matched?

The tool uses longest-match processing so a longer custom phrase takes priority over a shorter term that begins at the same position.

Can I import a text file?

Yes. It accepts local UTF-8 TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, SRT and VTT text files up to 5 MB. The file is read in the browser and is not uploaded by this page.

Will JSON or CSV remain valid after conversion?

The converter preserves structure characters, but changing text inside keys or values can affect application expectations. Validate structured files after conversion before deploying them.

Can I convert subtitles?

Yes. UTF-8 SRT and VTT text can be imported, and time codes are normally preserved because the converter changes Chinese text rather than numeric timing lines. Review the exported file before use.

Does it support very long text?

The page supports up to 500,000 characters per conversion and processes long input in responsive chunks. Extremely long documents may still be limited by device memory and browser performance.

Why are some words unchanged?

Some text may already use the selected form, may be ambiguous, may not exist in the dictionaries, or may be a name, technical term or rare character that requires manual review.

Why did a phrase change instead of only one character?

A regional phrase profile was selected. Choose a character-only profile when you want fewer vocabulary substitutions.

Can the result contain a different number of characters?

Yes. Phrase conversion and custom terminology can replace one expression with a longer or shorter expression. The output metrics show both input and output character counts.

What does the script estimate mean?

It compares a short sample against generic Simplified-to-Traditional and Traditional-to-Simplified conversions. It is only a practical estimate because mixed, short or name-heavy text can be ambiguous.

Can I see what changed?

Yes. The changed-line comparison shows the first differing lines and the changed source and output segments. It is designed for review rather than as a complete linguistic audit.

Can I swap the conversion direction?

Yes. The Swap Direction button selects the corresponding reverse profile. The Move Output to Input action also places the result into the input box for another conversion.

Does live conversion work for large documents?

Live conversion is limited to shorter text to keep typing responsive. Use the Convert Chinese button for larger documents.

Is the converted text uploaded to a server?

No page-specific endpoint receives the text. Conversion occurs in browser memory after the fixed conversion-data bundle is downloaded. The entered text is not included in that request.

Does the tool store my text?

No page-specific storage is used. Reset clears the current input, output, custom mappings and generated comparison from the page.

Why does the conversion data need to load?

The regional character and phrase dictionaries are loaded only when conversion is first requested. A network or content-blocking rule can prevent that fixed resource from loading.

What should I do if conversion cannot start?

Check the network connection, allow the fixed conversion resource, disable a blocking rule for the page and try again. Your text remains in the input box.

Can I use the output for legal, medical or official documents?

Use it as a drafting aid and have important documents reviewed by a qualified native-language editor. Names, legal terminology, institutional wording and context-sensitive expressions require human verification.

Does the tool support rare or historical characters?

Many common and regional mappings are supported, but rare extension characters can remain unchanged to avoid producing glyphs that may not display correctly in common fonts.

What file does the download create?

It creates a UTF-8 plain-text file whose filename begins with correctioncopy.com_ and identifies the selected target writing style.
