Download PNG or SVG

Use PNG for common documents and labels, or SVG for scalable vector artwork. Test the final printed barcode with the scanner used in your workflow.

Barcode formats supported by this generator

General purpose

Code 128 barcode generator

Code 128 is a dense linear barcode for printable ASCII text and numbers. It is widely used for shipping, inventory, serial numbers, asset IDs and internal logistics labels.

Retail

EAN-13 barcode generator

EAN-13 carries a GTIN-13 used in retail. Enter 12 payload digits and this tool calculates the check digit, or enter all 13 digits and the tool verifies the final check digit before rendering.

US / Canada retail

UPC-A barcode generator

UPC-A carries a 12-digit GTIN. Enter 11 payload digits for automatic check-digit calculation or provide a complete 12-digit code for verification.

Compact retail

EAN-8 barcode generator

EAN-8 is a compact EAN/UPC symbol for GTIN-8 identifiers. Seven payload digits can be completed automatically, while a supplied eighth digit is checked for consistency.

Industrial

Code 39 barcode generator

Code 39 encodes uppercase letters, digits and a defined group of symbols. It remains useful for asset tags, industrial identifiers and systems that require a simple alphanumeric linear code.

Logistics

ITF-14 barcode generator

ITF-14 is used for a 14-digit GTIN on logistics and distribution units. Enter 13 data digits to calculate the check digit or supply the full 14 digits for validation.

Numeric

MSI barcode generator

MSI/Plessey is a numeric linear symbology used by some inventory, shelving and library systems. This mode accepts digits only and renders the value with the selected visual settings.

Pharmaceutical packaging

Pharmacode generator

Pharmacode uses a numeric value from 3 to 131070 for packaging-control workflows. It is a specialized symbol and should only be used where the receiving system expects Pharmacode.

Check digits, GTIN numbers and barcode accuracy

Automatic GS1-style check-digit calculation

For EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 and ITF-14, the last digit is a check digit derived from the preceding digits. This generator calculates it when you enter the payload only and verifies it when you enter the complete fixed-length code.

A generated symbol does not allocate a GTIN

This barcode maker renders the identifier you supply. It does not issue GS1 Company Prefixes, allocate product GTINs, verify ownership, or register a product with a retailer or marketplace.

Standards reference: GS1 describes EAN/UPC as numeric retail symbologies and ITF-14 as a 14-digit linear symbol; GS1 also documents the check digit used by fixed-length identification keys. See GS1 Check Digit Calculator and GS1 System Architecture.

PNG vs SVG barcode download

SVG for scalable print and design

SVG keeps the barcode as vector artwork, so the bars remain sharp when resized in compatible design and publishing software. It is generally the better starting point for professional layout work.

High-resolution PNG for documents and labels

PNG is convenient for office documents, label templates and image-based workflows. Choose 1× to 4× export scale; the browser renders the current SVG into a PNG without uploading your barcode data.

Barcode print quality, quiet zones and colors

Keep strong contrast

Dark bars on a light background are the safest general choice. Decorative colors can reduce scanner reliability, so test the exact printed output with the scanner, material, printer and lighting used in production.

Do not crop the quiet zone

The blank margin around a linear barcode helps a scanner distinguish the symbol from nearby text and graphics. Keep sufficient clear space when placing the downloaded barcode into a label or package design.

Preserve proportions when resizing

A barcode can become difficult to scan if bars are stretched unevenly, blurred or compressed. SVG is useful when resizing because it preserves clean vector edges.

Verify before production printing

Preview generation confirms that the selected symbology can encode the value, but print quality and application compliance require testing with the intended scanner and relevant business standard.

Common uses for an online barcode maker

A barcode generator is useful when you need a scannable 1D symbol for product packaging, warehouse inventory, shipping labels, asset tracking, serial numbers, library items, internal stock references, cartons, pallets or pharmaceutical packaging controls. Code 128 is flexible for general text and IDs; EAN-13 and UPC-A are associated with retail GTINs; ITF-14 is commonly used for logistics units; Code 39 and MSI remain relevant in specific legacy or industrial systems.

For a QR code that can store a website URL, longer text, Wi-Fi details or other 2D data, use the CorrectionCopy QR Code Generator instead. For checking an existing barcode from an image or camera, use the QR Code & Barcode Scanner.

Privacy, performance and browser compatibility

Your barcode value stays in the browser

The barcode text, colors and layout settings are processed by page JavaScript in your browser. This page does not send the value you enter to a CorrectionCopy conversion endpoint or database.

Pinned rendering dependency

The barcode rendering script is loaded from one pinned jsDelivr package URL and then runs locally in the page. The entered barcode value is not included in that script request. If the dependency cannot load, the tool shows an error instead of silently producing an invalid result.

No artificial generation limit

There is no page-specific counter or quota. Practical input length still depends on the selected barcode symbology, the renderer and the physical width required for a scannable symbol.

Current browser requirements

The main generator uses SVG, Canvas, Blob URLs and standard JavaScript APIs available in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Browser download behavior can vary on mobile devices.

Troubleshooting barcode generation and downloads

EAN, UPC or ITF check digit is rejected

If you enter a complete fixed-length code, the final digit must match the check digit calculated from the preceding digits. Remove the last digit and let the tool calculate it, or correct the full number.

Code 39 rejects lowercase or symbols

Code 39 in this tool accepts uppercase A–Z, digits and the standard basic symbols shown in the input hint. Convert lowercase letters to uppercase or choose Code 128 for more flexible printable ASCII data.

Barcode looks correct but does not scan

Increase the quiet zone, use black bars on white, avoid non-uniform resizing, export SVG for print, and test the actual printed label. A valid digital symbol can still fail because of physical size, blur, low contrast or printing conditions.

PNG export does not download

Try SVG export, check the browser's download permissions, and make sure the barcode preview is still valid. Very large 4× PNG exports can also require more memory on lower-end devices.

Barcode Generator FAQs

What is a barcode generator?

A barcode generator converts supported text or numbers into the bars and spacing of a selected 1D symbology. This tool previews the symbol in SVG and lets you download SVG or PNG output.

Which barcode type should I choose?

Use Code 128 for general printable ASCII data, EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail GTIN workflows, EAN-8 for compact retail identifiers, ITF-14 for applicable logistics units, Code 39 for compatible industrial systems, MSI for numeric legacy workflows, and Pharmacode only where that specialized format is required.

Can I generate an EAN-13 from 12 digits?

Yes. Enter 12 payload digits and the generator calculates the thirteenth check digit. If you enter all 13 digits, the final digit is verified before the barcode is rendered.

Can I enter a complete UPC-A, EAN-8 or ITF-14?

Yes. UPC-A accepts 11 payload digits or a complete 12-digit value; EAN-8 accepts 7 or 8 digits; ITF-14 accepts 13 or 14 digits. Complete values must contain the correct final check digit.

Does creating a barcode register a product number?

No. The tool only renders the data you provide. It does not assign a GS1 Company Prefix, allocate a GTIN, prove ownership, or register the identifier with retailers, marketplaces or standards organizations.

Should I download PNG or SVG?

SVG is usually better for scalable print and design work because it stays vector-based. PNG is convenient for office documents and image workflows; the tool provides multiple PNG export scales.

Can I make the barcode background transparent?

Yes. Enable Transparent background before export. For real scanning, make sure the surface behind the barcode still provides strong contrast and adequate quiet zones.

Can I change barcode colors and dimensions?

Yes. You can adjust bar color, background color, bar width, height, margin, label size, label position and whether the readable value is displayed. Test customized output before production use.

Why does Code 128 reject some Unicode text?

This 1D Code 128 workflow is intended for printable ASCII data. If your content contains emoji or non-Latin Unicode text, use a QR code or another format designed for that data instead of forcing unsupported characters into a linear barcode.

Is my barcode data uploaded?

The entered barcode value is processed in the current browser and is not sent to a CorrectionCopy conversion endpoint. The page loads one pinned barcode-rendering script from jsDelivr, but your entered value is not part of that dependency request.

Why might a printed barcode fail to scan?

Common causes include insufficient quiet zones, low contrast, blur, distorted scaling, poor printer output, reflective material, or a physical size that is unsuitable for the target scanner. Validate the exact printed label in its real environment.

Can I generate unlimited barcodes?

The page does not impose a conversion counter or quota. You can reset and reuse the tool repeatedly; practical limits come from the selected symbology and browser/device resources.
