This ZIP maker online creates a standard .zip archive from multiple files or an entire folder without first uploading those files to a ZIP-processing server. Compression levels: Store, Fast, Normal and Maximum
Store places files in the ZIP without DEFLATE compression and is useful when the source files are already compressed. Fast prioritizes speed, Normal balances time and size, and Maximum spends more processing time trying to reduce compressible data further. JPEG, MP4, MP3 and many modern document formats are already compressed internally, so a ZIP archive can sometimes be approximately the same size—or slightly larger because of archive metadata.
Password-protected ZIP files with AES encryption
When password protection is enabled, you can create an AES-256 encrypted ZIP, AES-192 ZIP or AES-128 ZIP. A legacy ZipCrypto option is retained only for older extraction software; it is much weaker than AES. Password-protected ZIP compatibility varies by operating-system extractor. Microsoft states that Windows 11 24H2 does not support operations on encrypted archive files in its built-in archive interface, so recipients may need compatible third-party extraction software.
Important: ZIP encryption protects archive contents from casual access, but a forgotten password cannot be recovered by this tool. Keep the password somewhere secure and test important archives before deleting the original files.
Large ZIP files and browser capacity
The tool does not impose an arbitrary file-count or file-size ceiling. Practical capacity depends on the browser, available RAM, free storage, file sizes and device performance. The current ZIP engine supports Zip64 when required and can use browser workers and native compression streams where available. For very large archives, keep other memory-heavy tabs closed and use the Cancel button if the device becomes unresponsive.
Folder structure and duplicate names
When Preserve folder structure is enabled, relative subfolder paths are kept inside the ZIP. If it is disabled, files are flattened into the archive root and conflicting names are automatically made unique rather than silently overwriting one another. Empty folders may not be exposed by every browser folder picker because browsers commonly return files rather than standalone empty directories.

How do I create a ZIP file online?

This page does not impose an arbitrary limit. The practical limit depends on your browser, device memory, storage and the amount of data being processed. Very large archives can require substantial resources.
Why did my ZIP file not become much smaller?
Many formats such as JPEG, MP4, MP3 and modern Office files already contain compressed data. Recompressing them inside a ZIP often saves little space and can add a small amount of archive overhead.
Are my selected files uploaded?
The ZIP creation workflow reads the selected files locally in your browser and does not send them to a page-specific processing endpoint. A pinned ZIP engine script is downloaded from a CDN when you start creating the archive.
What happens if two files have the same name?
When folder structure is flattened, conflicting filenames are automatically renamed inside the archive so one file does not silently replace another. Exact duplicate selections are skipped when possible.
Can I cancel ZIP creation?
Yes. Use Cancel while compression is running. The current operation is aborted, but your selected files and settings remain available so you can try again.
Does ZIP Maker work on phones and tablets?
The interface is responsive and works in modern mobile browsers, but large folders and very large archives may exceed the memory available on a phone sooner than on a desktop computer.
