How to create a Swiss QR-bill
- Enter the bank-issued IBAN or QR-IBAN and the account holder's name.
- Provide a structured creditor address with postal code, town and two-letter country code. Add the street and building number where available.
- Choose CHF or EUR and enter an amount if you want the QR-bill to request a fixed sum.
- Select the matching reference type: NON or SCOR for an ordinary IBAN; QRR for a QR-IBAN with CHF.
- Optionally add payer details, an invoice message, billing information and a payment-slip language.
- Select Generate to check the details and see the Swiss QR-bill receipt and payment part.
- Choose payment-slip-only or top-aligned A4 layout, then download PDF, SVG or 300 DPI PNG; print at actual size and scan-test with the intended banking app.
Swiss QR-bill PDF placement and page sizes
For a Swiss-standard integrated invoice, SIX specifies the payment part and receipt on the lower edge of the invoice or beside the separation line. This tool offers top-aligned A4 as a convenient standalone print layout instead; verify the relevant Swiss print and perforation rules before presenting it as a physical integrated QR-bill. The 62 × 105 mm receipt remains on the left and the 148 × 105 mm payment part on the right.
For a standalone payment request, select Payment slip only before downloading. This produces a 210 × 105 mm PDF, SVG or PNG with no unused page above the slip. The Full A4 option instead places the slip at the top for convenience. That is not the prescribed placement for a physically integrated Swiss QR-bill. Both options keep the QR symbol and payment dimensions unchanged. Always print at 100% / Actual size and follow applicable paper and perforation requirements for physical submission.
Swiss QR Code, payment part and receipt
Swiss QR-bills are designed for Swiss and Liechtenstein payment processing. Unlike an ordinary web QR code, the Swiss QR Code contains a specific payment record starting with SPC, 0200 and 1. The black-and-white Swiss cross identifies the symbol. The accompanying print layout contains the receipt on the left (62 × 105 mm) and the payment part on the right (148 × 105 mm).
This generator composes a 210 × 105 mm payment section and receipt, optionally positioned at the top of a full A4 convenience page, with a 46 × 46 mm Swiss QR symbol and its required quiet zone. It exports readable creditor, reference and payer data alongside the QR. It does not generate an invoice itemisation, VAT calculations or automatically number invoices.
It is suited to freelancers, associations, property managers and small businesses preparing a payment request. It does not register a payment, issue bank accounts, or independently certify print quality. The recipient and invoice issuer are responsible for verifying that their details match the bank account.
IBAN, QR-IBAN and payment references
A normal Swiss or Liechtenstein IBAN can be used with reference type NON (no structured reference) or SCOR (ISO 11649 creditor reference beginning with RF). The RF reference includes a modulo 97 check digit, which this tool checks or calculates when requested.
A QR-IBAN is recognisable by the bank's QR-IID between 30000 and 31999. It requires reference type QRR: exactly 27 numeric digits, including a modulo-10-recursive check digit. QR-IBAN/QRR is only offered in CHF. A regular IBAN cannot be paired with QRR, and a QR-IBAN cannot use SCOR/NON. For EUR QR-bills, the conservative reference options are standard IBAN with SCOR or NON, consistent with SIX version 2.4's upcoming euroSIC change.
All available reference check-digit routines verify format, not that a recipient owns the IBAN or that an invoice is legitimate. Do not create or change an assigned reference arbitrarily for a real business transaction.
Formatting, downloads and print accuracy
New QR-bills use structured addresses (type S) since November 2025. Creditor name, postal code, town and country are required. The debtor group is optional; when present, the payer's name and postal details must be complete. The payment record is UTF-8 text with a maximum of 997 characters and a QR version no greater than 25 at error correction level M.
Choose Payment slip only to download a compact 210 × 105 mm payment part and receipt without unused space, or Full A4 to place the strip at the top of a 210 × 297 mm convenience page (not the standard integrated-invoice placement). PDF, SVG and PNG exports all respect this selection. PNG uses a print-oriented 300 DPI resolution. The bill is black on white, and QR-symbol colours cannot be customised. Do not reduce the QR symbol below 46 mm, remove the blank margin or add marketing graphics to the payment slip.
Digital PDF payment parts are appropriate for e-banking and m-banking, but not every PDF printout is accepted at a postal counter. If physical counter submission matters, follow SIX paper, perforation and print specifications, and consult the receiving institution. On ordinary A4 printers use 100% / Actual Size, disable browser headers/footers, and verify the printed result by scanning.
Accuracy, privacy and common problems
- Invalid account number: check the country prefix, all digits and the bank-issued IBAN. The modulus-97 check prevents typing errors but cannot verify account ownership.
- QR reference cannot be used: check that your account really is a QR-IBAN from the bank and that the requested currency is CHF.
- Reference rejected: a QRR needs 27 digits with a valid last check digit; an RF creditor reference requires the correct ISO 11649 checksum.
- Address rejected: use separate structured postal code and town fields. Do not paste a whole address into the city field.
- Unreadable paper QR: choose the vector or PDF export, keep the prescribed 46 mm square, print at actual size with sufficient contrast, and scan a sample.
- Unsupported characters or an overly long record: use Latin-script text accepted by Swiss Payment Standards, remove control characters and shorten optional fields.
Source: SIX Swiss QR-bill standards, including the current version 2.3 and published version 2.4 (introduced with the SIC release on 13 November 2026). The implementation conservatively applies the newer EUR reference restriction already. QR-bill bank acceptance also depends on the institution and payment channel.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Swiss QR-bill?
A Swiss QR-bill is an invoice payment part with a receipt and a Swiss QR Code. It encodes the account holder, CH/LI IBAN, currency and optional payer, amount and payment reference for bank scanning.
Is a QR-IBAN the same as an ordinary IBAN?
No. A QR-IBAN contains a QR-IID between 30000 and 31999. It must be paired with a valid 27-digit QR reference (QRR) and used for payments in CHF. Ask your bank to provide the QR-IBAN; this tool does not allocate one.
Can I use a standard IBAN with a QR reference?
No. A regular CH/LI IBAN accepts a validated ISO 11649 RF creditor reference (SCOR) or no structured reference (NON). A QRR requires a QR-IBAN.
Does the tool support CHF and EUR?
Yes. Both are selectable with an ordinary IBAN, but QR-IBAN and QRR are limited to CHF. The stricter EUR treatment reflects the SIX version 2.4 implementation guidelines scheduled for November 2026.
Are structured addresses required?
Yes. Since November 2025 Swiss QR-bills use structured address type S. The account holder needs a name, postal code, town and ISO two-letter country. Street and house number are separate optional fields. The payer can be left blank.
Can I leave out the amount or payer?
Yes. The generated payment part and receipt then provide fields for the payer to fill in the missing details. A fixed amount, when provided, must be greater than zero.
Why does the A4 layout put the payment slip at the top?
Top-aligned A4 is a convenience layout for this tool. An integrated Swiss QR-bill normally places the payment part along the bottom of the invoice. For just the receipt and payment part, choose the 210 × 105 mm slip-only export. Confirm paper and placement rules before physical submission.
Can I print a QR-bill PDF at a post office?
PDF printouts need exact A4 scaling and correct paper quality. SIX warns that digitally supplied PDF payment slips are intended for e-/mobile banking, not automatically for counter payments. For physical payment use a suitable original paper/perforated print workflow and confirm requirements with your financial institution.
Does this generator send bank information to a server?
The form, validation, QR creation and downloads run locally in your browser; no bank details are submitted by this tool. Normal website assets, analytics and account services are separate. Save Tool adds only the tool link to your account Favorites when you are logged in; it never saves bank details. The generator does not submit or execute a bank transfer.
